Greetings Gospel City –
We recently approved minor revisions to our bylaws—primarily clarifying elder processes, staffing, budgeting, and contract procedures. Below is the list of revisions, followed by a link to the fully updated Bylaws:
-
Elders are not required to go through the formal nomination and re-election process to serve additional terms; subsequent terms require a unanimous vote of the Elders and Pastors (4.5).
-
Additional Elder terms must be communicated to church members; the form of communication may vary (4.5).
-
Any resignation or removal of an Elder from office, or a Pastor from staff, results in removal from all Pastor/Elder leadership duties (4.6, 4.7, 4.8).
-
All dismissal appeals are directed to the Council of Elders rather than to an outside mediation panel (4.7, 4.8).
-
The Council of Elders consists of the Lead Pastor, Executive Pastor, and all Elders, unless otherwise stipulated by Council consensus (4.10).
-
Any newly created staff position must be approved by the Council of Elders before hiring (7.2).
-
Adds a timeline, defined roles, and responsibilities to ensure the annual budget is developed, approved, and monitored in a timely and accountable manner (10.3).
-
Provides additional structure and clarity on financial oversight roles and reporting (10.5).
-
Requires Council of Elders approval for all real-estate transactions, regardless of dollar amount (10.6).
-
Sets a $10,000 threshold requiring Council of Elders approval for fixed-asset transactions (10.6).
-
Clarifies who is authorized to legally commit the church to contracts or expenditures, establishes approval of signers and limits, and strengthens accountability through an annual review by the Elders (10.7).
If there are any questions, please feel free to reach out to any of our elders or contact the church office.
You are loved!
