Nasa Sete — Church Planter

Hawaii, United States

What is the Mission?

In November of 2020, God birthed within my wife Caroline and I the vision to plant a church that was faithful to preach the true Gospel, teach sound doctrine, and offer biblical counseling to islanders throughout the pacific rim. Though we and our four children Roman (7), Otani (4), Lesieli (3), and Ruth (1) are of Tongan descent, a pacific island ethnicity, we currently reside in Indiana.

In 2022, I connected with a Church Planting Catalyst for the North American Mission Board or NAMB. After passing a couple church planting assessments, I am now an official church planter with NAMB. I currently serve as the Church Planter Resident at my sending Gospel City Church (mygospelcity.org). Our vision includes planting a church on Oahu, as I am originally from Hawaii. We believe that planting a church there is the next step for us in this vision.

By 2025, we desire to be on the ground in Oahu beginning to plant a church that preaches the true Gospel of Jesus Christ, teaches biblically sound doctrine, and offers biblical counseling.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE FOR THE MISSION?

The purpose for this mission is to provide a space where polynesians can receive salvation and freedom through the preaching and teaching of the bible while taking advantage of the biblical counseling that this church will offer.

I can honestly say that if it was not for our local church faithfully preaching the true Gospel, teaching sound doctrine, and biblically counseling my wife and I, we do not know where we would be right now. Though many of our islanders suffer from the same troubles and struggles that we faced being under the influence of the past and more so under the influence of the island culture, those struggles and troubles all stemmed from bad theology.

So it is with a heavy heart and burning desire that we believe God is calling us to take what He used to redeem and restore our marriage to the pacific islands and this through church planting.

WHAT DO WE NEED TO ACCOMPLISH THIS MISSION?

Would you prayerfully consider partnering with us in 2 specific ways?

Prayers: we ask that you partner with us through your faithful prayers. Please pray that I put God above all, that my marriage and my family will strive in the Kingdom of God, and that God blesses this church plant for His glory.

Giving: we ask that you partner with us through your cheerful financial giving. My family and I have 2 specific asks:

1. Transition Expense: Because we currently live in Indiana, we cannot simply load a uhaul and “drive” to Hawaii. Therefore, we will leave EVERYTHING and only take with us the clothes we have and a couple favorite toys that our kids will pick out. With this said, we ask that you will help us raise $60,000 for our transitional expenses. This amount covers moving expenses such as flights, vehicle, furniture, etc…

2. Living Expenses: After numerous conversations with local pastors in Oahu, we found that for my family of 6 to live in Oahu, we will need at least $120,000 a year. Because the cost of living in Hawaii is so expensive, this amount is not surprising. This amount covers both housing and living expenses.

If the Lord moves you to partner with us for either or both of these “asks”, you can choose to give monthly, quarterly, or even a one time gift.

HOW ARE WE GETTING EQUIPPED FOR THIS MISSION?

As a Church Plant Resident, I am on pace to complete my residency program by the end of 2024. This equipping process consists of being involved in every facet of church ministry from greeting people at the doors to preaching and teaching to counseling people a couple times a week. I am also focusing on my theological development.

Along with being a stay home mom and homeschooling our children, Caroline is actively involved in the Biblical Soul Care ministry as she gains experience, knowledge, and wisdom sitting in on many counseling sessions.

Thank you for taking time to read our testimony and learn about what God is calling me and my family to do. I close with this verse.

Ephesians 3:20-21 – “Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”
